The Devil's Playboys
If you ask anyone about a HEW show, nine times out of ten, they will mention The Devil’s Playboys along with words like "outrageous", "pushing boundaries", and almost certainly "controversial".
The Devil’s Playboys group was founded by HEW Owner, Sam Knee, but not as you know them now, originally, The Devil’s Playboys consisted of Ricky Relentless managed, of course, by what some say is the best manager in the country these days, Sam Knee.
Ricky Relentless and Sam Knee’s feud with Zak Zodiac was the talk of the promotion at one time and lead to the much anticipated "Hair vs. Mask" match, in November 2006, during which Relentless lost the match and had his hair cut right in the middle of the ring. Then, in January 2007, The Devil’s Playboys’ group changed forever.
Following a successful WAW British title defense from, the champion at the time, Brett "The Kraft" Meadows against Zak Zodiac, Relentless and Knee stormed the ring to attack Zodiac; Meadows having just won the bout, hit the ring acting as if he was going to save the young masked star, however, to the horror of everyone, Brett Meadows joined the Devil’s Playboys, along with Kharisma and the era really did begin.
The Devil’s Playboys were now complete and setting their sights high, in January 2008, after the WAW world title defence from then champion Erik Isaksen against The Zebra Kid, Sam Knee lead The Devil’s Playboys on a hit against Sweet Saraya causing one of the most controversial moments not just in HEW but, in British wrestling, full stop! Click here to view the footage!. This also led to the departure of Ricky Relentless who left the wrestling business due to fear of repercussions from the Knight dynasty.
The duo of Sam Knee and Brett Meadows proved the era of the Devil’s Playboys was really here and here to stay, as they forged forward when all the other members of the Devil’s Playboys faded into the background and disappeared. The wrestler / manager combo, also seen in tag team match ups, showed themselves to be a dominant force and with their lewd conduct and their blatant lack of respect they are gradually becoming notorious, if a little hated!
In October 2008 Brett Meadows won the HEW Title from Zak Zodiac, again in controversial fashion, when the lights mysteriously went out! (Power failure???????). It conveniently happened as Zak was going for a Frogsplash, in an attempt at the win and when they came back on Brett Meadows already poised finished it all off with a clothesline off the top rope.
There has been 3 female members of the Devils Playboys over the years Kharisma, followed by Jade but, again in a ridiculously outrageous move by the Devil’s Playboys, more recently Britani Knight was added to the faction, after she turned against her own mother as she felt that Sweet Saraya was holding her back and she wanted to be a part of the controversy that is the Devil’s Playboys.
The Devil’s Playboys have gone from strength to strength. In taking a feud with Bjorn Sem, the NWF heavyweight champion, to his own country of Norway and obnoxiously insulting all the Norwegian fans with their "Viking slaying vacation", they proved they are not only The Devils Playboys and hated for it, but also hated internationally too.
